Selecting a College

When selecting a college, try to narrow your choices down to 3-4 colleges.  There are so many things to consider when searching colleges:

and do not require minimum ACT scores or Grade Point Averages to attend.

  • Programs and majors:  Do they offer a major in the area you wish to study?  Are they accredited?
  • Location:  Public colleges out of state can cost 2-3 times more.  Is this a place I would consider "home"?
  • Size:  Larger schools offer more programs and variety, smaller colleges offer more intimacy and the ability to participate in more programs with less competition.
  • Cost:  Public colleges offer lower tuition, private colleges may offer scholarships and incentives to increase diversity.

How to find more information?

  • Conduct a College Search using Educationquest, Peterson's Planner or College Board
  • Explore the websites of each college.
  • Schedule a college visit and meet with the college admissions counselor.
  • See your high school guidance counselor to discuss your options.
